INFANT & TODDLER PROGRAMS
AT GRAND VIEW

Working parents are often hard-pressed to find a place where their infant or toddler will be well cared for while they work.  We invite prospective parents to spend some time in our infant and toddler rooms, and you will discover just how good child care can be.

Our infants and toddlers at Grand View, age six weeks to 24 months, have a immaculate rooms of their own, where they can interact with each other and the caring staff.

Infant Child Development Philosophy
We take our lead from Maria Montessori, an educator and Italy’s first female physician. She observed that infants’ minds are like sponges and they learn almost effortlessly in the right environment.

Babies stretch and giggle before a baby-height mirror complete with a pull-up bar, and play with a multitude of toys designed to foster specific motor and language skills.  At nap-time infants are tucked into a crib that offers staff an unobstructed view of the child.

From the time a child is born, each one is considered a truly unique and special individual, respected as a valuable human being.  Our work as adults in each child’s life is to provide love, care, and guidance every step along the way of life.  The purpose of the Grand View Child Development program is to give these very young children the best environment in which to grow.

We believe a child can thrive only if (s) he feels safe and comfortable with the people in that environment.  That sense of security is a matter of trust; a trust that develops as a child experience his/her needs being met with appropriate, timely, and joyful responses.  Feeding, cuddling, diapering, and playing allow wonderful opportunities for the babies and teachers to interact and to create a loving connection between them.  That bound will become a great source of comfort and delight to the children and adults alike.

Finding the best environment for your child is important, especially during the first few years of life.  In those years, a baby learns to trust, to pursue curiosity, and to interact with people. As in every Montessori program, the classroom environment is designed especially for the children it will serve.  The teachers have been chosen because of their education, experience, natural ability, and desire to work with children.  They are keenly aware of the needs and interests of those babies, and they want nothing more to assist them in their development.  Being mindful that this may be a significant time of separation from Mom and Dad, the staff is especially careful to give the child a sense of belonging and comfort.

Dr. Susan Ludington, an authority on infant stimulation and the head of the School of Nursing of the University of California at Berkeley, states that any stimulation provided during the first 12 months has more impact on the brain’s growth than at any other time in a baby’s life.

Research also shows that babies are capable of real social interaction, and they enjoy and benefit from being together.  Children who start playing with others early tend to have the largest “social vocabularies” and enhanced social skills.  While your baby is in our care, our teachers give the infants constant contact, lots of attention, talking, singing, games, and other activities as they observe the babies and deduce their needs.

Personal and nurturing attention
Our ratio of babies to teachers is never more than four to one. We strive to have a three to one ratio for our infants age six weeks to twelve months.  This makes it possible for each infant to get the individual attention so vital at this age.

Come spend some time with us
You’ll see for yourself what a Montessori, Christian education could mean to your child.  As you witness the unfolding drama of young children discovering the world for themselves, you may come to the same conclusion as so many of our parents: there could be no wiser investment in the future of their child.

A child’s day is much like a day at home – full of care, conversation, play time, rest time, and lots of love.  Each day is a day of growing, learning, and individual steps along the way of becoming the person he or she is meant to be.

Built for children

The rooms are cheerful, warm, and welcoming place.  The architecturally designed building allows for plenty of natural light and open, airy space.  Each aspect of the room; the arrangement of furniture, the selection of toys and materials, the activity spaces are designed to encourage freedom of movement and exploration as well as the development of large and small motor skills have been planned to reflect and meet the needs of the children.
